Over the years, Rocco Yim's work on award-winning projects such as the Guangdong Museum and the HKSAR Government Headquarters at Tamar have made him probably Hong Kong's most influential architect.

Synonymous with the quintessentially Chinese virtues of resilience, honesty and humility and offering incredible strength and flexibility, bamboo has been central to Asian life for thousands of years. In designing a temporary outdoor performance venue for Hong Kong's stand at Berlin's 2000 Festival of Vision, Yim wanted to showcase these qualities for the world. Representing the apparently starkly different – but in reality very mutually compatible – Eastern and Western value systems, Yim's unique, non-traditional, triangular-designed Bamboo Pavilion proved to be a major draw in Berlin.

严迅奇自幼在香港受教育，并於1976年以优异生毕业於香港大学建築系。毕业後，他於马海建築工程师事务所实习了两年，於1979年自己创立严迅奇建築师事务所。并於1982年与李柏荣及许文博成立许李严建築师，执业至今。

早於1983年，他参赛的巴黎巴士底歌剧院国际竞赛方案，获得首名。自此他的作品在香港及海外经常获奖，包括1994年及2003年的亚州建築师协会金奖。2006年的芝加哥Athenaeum Award 、2007年的Kenneth F. Brown Award，以及在国际竞赛中标的2004年广东省博物馆、2007年的添马舰香港政府总部。严迅奇多次获邀为海内外各种论坛和学术会议为主讲嘉宾，包括出席IAA Symposia，Harvard GSD Conference，亚洲建築师协会论坛，New Trend Architecture论坛。其中多项作品获国际期刊介绍，如：SD、SPACE、AR、Zoo、ROOT、Domus、Frames、Art in America、Architectural Review等。

除了建築设计外，严迅奇还担任多项公职，现为香港设计中心董事及香港大学建築系名誉教授。2003 年他首本作品集The City in Architecture出版，2004年出版Being Chinese in Architecture。而新的作品集将於2010年度第叁季出版。
