A tigerish take on tradition

A world-renowned animator for more than two decades, Raman Hui has worked on many blockbuster movies (Antz and Shrek the Third) which have achieved both considerable critical and com (mercial acclaim).

Once solely revered by Asians, the Chinese Zodiac now influences people all over the world. In 2008, Hui joined forces with Culture Laboratories Limited to examine each animal from both a cultural and a design standpoint in a pioneering 12-year initiative called Project 12. Each year until 2020, leading artists from all over Asia will be invited to create a series of zodiac animal-themed collections. To date, Project 12 has already released Rat, Ox and Tiger collections to considerable acclaim. Designed for the current Year of the Tiger, Hui’s series of delightfully playful creatures reflect both his sense of humour and animation background. They also provide an excellent indication of the wealth of extraordinary creative possibilities that arise when traditional cultural and design sensibilities are combined modern manufacturing technologies.

许诚毅，二十多年来专心致志推展动画艺术的工作。作为动画电影的导演，他在动画的视觉效果和情感铺排上，坚持观察和反映人生的重要性。对於许诚毅来说，富想像力地将一举一动重新创作得自然流畅，就是令动画富有挑战性，且带奇妙之处。对人物性格和行为的完整描绘，许诚毅绝对是一丝不苟的，这正正突显了他的超卓才华，可构思动人心弦丶深入民心的人物性格，令故事在世界每一个角落都获得认同。

许诚毅是香港理工大学的平面设计毕业生，在学校的一次偶然机会下，他接触了动画的工作，造就了他参加1984年的香港独立短片拍摄比赛，更获取了最佳动画奖。在事业上，他开始在香港的一所电脑动画公司Quantum Studio担任动画师。 其後，他到了加拿大Sheridan College 修读电脑动画课程。

自1989年起，许诚毅已成为PDI/DreamWorks的主力，领导公司里的动画团队进行各式各样的动画工作，由商业广告丶短片及至电影不等。他专心在PDI发展，孜孜不倦，更创作出多个获奖广告和短片，这份努力引领他成为PDI/DreamWorks首套全电脑动画故事片 －《蚁哥正传》的造型设计师 / 动画指导。许诚毅亦是奥斯卡得奖电影巨片《史力加》丶环球片场主题公园万人迷《史力加．四度空间》及《史力加2》之动画总监，成为史上收入最高的动画电影。他亦曾担任DreamWorks Television及全国广播电视台黄金时段播映之动画笑片《Father of the Pride》的动画总监。他完成了《史力加之咁就三世》的首个联合导演工作，最近亦导演了《功夫熊猫》中的动画短片"Secrets of the Furious Five"。

在过去十年间，许诚毅曾创作多个3D动画人物，包括Jim Henson "Muppetvision" 中的CG米奇老鼠；还为Hanna-Barbera 的真人秀特备电视节目 "The Last Halloween" 中，构思了首个CG Pillsbury Doughboy 和 Marvin the Martian，在剧中与真人演对手戏。 许诚毅亦为PDI/DreamWorks的巨献 "Sleeping Guy" 作导演丶编剧和制作，更於Sundance Festival 中别树一帜，及後该作品亦於伦敦动画节丶日本Niccograph丶美国国际电影节获取奖项，并於1995年的Imagina获取最佳动作短片。 他最近创作的一部家庭短片《Fat Cat on a Diet》，更在多个电影节和论坛播放，包括伦敦动画节丶Anima Mundi及芝加哥国际儿童电影节等。 2007年，许诚毅获授予《ShoWest年度风云动画导演》大奖丶2008年，许诚毅获授予《世界杰出华人设计师》大奖丶2009年，许诚毅更获中华人民共和国香港特别行政区政府授予《铜紫荆星章》。
