Open since 1998, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is now Asia’s premier regional hub, handling some 46,000,000 passengers each year. Throughputting around 3,350,000 tonnes of cargo annually, the airport has also been the world’s busiest freight facility every year since it opened. HKIA’s commitment to providing quality services and amenities has seen it showered with around 30 ‘World’s Best Airport’ awards from 10 internationally respected bodies in the last 12 years. Located within less than five flying hours of half the world's population, HKIA currently operates around 800 daily flights to and from some 150 destinations worldwide, including about 40 Mainland Chinese cities. The airport is also linked to the Mainland by an integrated, multi-modal transport network. Specific links include some 360 round-trip coaches to 95 major destinations in China’s Pearl River Delta manufacturing centre. The addition of a SkyPier cross-boundary ferry terminal providing convenient, high-speed ferry further simplifies travel within Greater China.
