Making the most of tight urban spaces
Established by Gary Chang in 1994, Edge Design is a major multi-disciplinary design studio which has earned a first rate reputation for urban planning and architecture.
When redesigning the 32 sq. m. apartment where he had lived for 30 years, Chang came up with the incredibly ingenious solution of using 'Time-based Interior Architecture'. To this end, his design incorporated sliding walls, rotating desks and folding beds that enabled multiple domestic scenarios. The biggest problem Chang faced was in also wanting to keep around half the space empty for flexibility and make everything in the apartment bigger or longer than was usual. Such is the intricacy and accuracy of Chang's 'transformer apartment' design that it can easily switch from a private cinema to a 20-people party venue, or even a fully equipped spa. And all this in a flat which includes a larger-than-life 1,990mm-long bathtub, and a 1,290 x1,290mm shower cubicle.
