Unleashing multi-cultural imaginings

Since moving to Hong Kong three years ago, Danny Fang has leveraged his Dutch, Chinese, West Indian and Indian multi-cultural roots to become one of the Territory’s top industrial designers.

Already widely acclaimed for a series of African ethnic arts and crafts, Fang began working with Amsterdam’s respected Marcel Wanders studio in 2001, eventually rising to become Product Development Head. In 2007, Fang simply packed his laptop, caught a plane and set up his own studio in Hong Kong. Genuinely multi-cultural designs such as Gradient woven, polythene-extruded outdoor furniture and Russian doll-style Matryoshka chairs have since cemented his reputation as a truly visionary commercial designer and developer. One of Perspective magazine top ‘40 under-40 bringers of change in Greater China’s creative industry’, Fang eagerly gives back to the community by lecturing at the School of Design of Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also enthusiastically supports many worthy charity and educational initiatives.
