Hong Kong has produced some eminent names in the international design arena over the recent past decades. A new generation of Hong Kong’s design power is fast emerging. To encourage the development of these promising young designers, we are showcasing them in "A Better Tomorrow – The Future Generation" as part of the exhibition, "Hong Kong Creative Ecologies – Business, Living, Creativity" premiered at Expo 2010 Shanghai.
Near 50 Hong Kong designers on the rise are presenting their own creative solutions with total autonomy to 50 identical sculptures created by Hong Kong cultural critic and artist Danny Yung's iconic comic character "Tian Tian Xiang Shang". These variations on a theme show diverse interpretations, fantasy and ideals.
The exhibition "Hong Kong: Creative Ecologies" presents a compelling and persuasive story about Hong Kong as a creative work in progress. It manifests how the creative ecologies – physical, social, economic as well as cultural – have fostered an environment for nurturing and attracting creative talents, industries and services.
Organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, the exhibition is one of the highlights of a multifaceted programme that also features seminars, cultural exchange, strategic planning and research projects to showcase and promote the creative, multi-cultural and entrepreneurial spirit of Hong Kong designers to the world.
The works by the up-and-coming Hong Kong designers are a compelling statement of the new creative power of Hong Kong.
